This aquatic plant is excellent for quiet, shallow water. It can quickly form a patch which is useful for shoreline stabilization. Because it does not grow as dense or as tall as cattails, colorful herbs such as monkey flower (Mimulus ringens) can be intermixed. The erect slender leaves and flowering spike have a spicy fragrance.
